Consolation Championship Game - Beggs Tournament
Jags Win Big Over Okmulgee Bulldogs 14-1
Andrew Smith started off the Jags in the first inning with a two out triple. Parker McDaniel followed with an RBI double. Sam Brownwood reached on an infield single and later scored on a passed ball. Jeb Penrod reached base on an error while following another Jag run to cross the plate. Avery Penrod walked and Justin Leekley reached on an error scoring another Jag run. Cole Wilson hit a beautiful two out 2-RBI double before the inning ended with the Jags on top 6-0.
In the 2nd, Joe Sabatini reached on an error, advanced to 2nd on a balk, then scored on Jeb Penrod's RBI single. In the bottom of the 2nd the Bulldogs threatened after the first two batters reached on hits and then another bulldog was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Pitcher Avery Penrod struck out the next batter and enticed the next Bulldog into a ground out.
In the 3rd inning Joe Sabatini hit a 2 out HOME RUN, his second of the tournament giving the Jags an 8-0 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd the Bulldogs loaded the bases again and were able to push across one run on 1 hit. The Jags exploded for five more runs in the top of the fourth. Jeb Penrod reached on a walk, stole 2nd, then scored on Avery Penrod's single. Justin Leekley, Cole Wilson and Trey Weaver followed with singles of their own. Joe Sabatini reached on a walk and advanced to second with a balk then scored on Andrew Smith's double. When the inning was over the Jags were ahead 14-1.
Every Jaguar recorded at least one hit and scored at least one run! Even though two bulldogs reached base after an error and a double the Jag defense kept them from scoring. The Jags run ruled the Bulldogs and the game ended after the 4th inning to capture the Beggs Consolation Championship.
Avery Penrod pitched a complete game recording another win. He
allowed one unearned run, four hits (2 doubles) and struck out 2
batters.
Jaguar varsity play a doubleheader against the 6A #5 Union JV on Monday, April 6th at the Union Complex. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
Next home game at LaFortune Park is Tuesday, April 7th vs 3A #13 Cascia Hall.
