HWSA - Day 1 Recap - April 30th

The NOAH Jaguars varsity baseball team traveled to Auburndale, Florida this week to compete in the Homeschool World Series  www.hwsa.net.  Jags competed in two seeding games on Monday, April 30th, winning the first game and losing the second game.

Seeding Game 1: NOAH 4 Atlanta Knights 3

Wes Shaffer pitched a 7 inning complete game giving up only 1 earned run on 6 hits, 1 walk, 1 hit by pitch while striking out 10.  He was helped with offense by Caleb Baca who went 2 for 3 with a double and hits by Joe Sabatini, Austin Dillingham, Ben Beaver and Kendall Davis who also doubled.  Cole Wilson walked twice and Beaver and Sabatini also drew free bases.  Atlanta scored 3 times on the Jags with the help of 4 miscues by the Jags.

Seeding Game 2: Memphis Eagles 6 NOAH 5

Senior Cole Wilson took the mound for the Jags and pitched a 7 inning complete game.  Wilson struggled in the 1st inning giving up 2 hits and 2 walks and that helped The Eagles score 4 runs.  Wilson would only allow 2 runs in the remaining 6 innings as he allowed only 7 more hits, 2 walks and struck out 4.  Senior Joe Sabatini launched a rocket over the right center in the top of the 7th to tie the game.  The Eagles came back on a long triple to score the winning run in the bottom half of the inning for a 6-5 win.  Big hits in the game were doubles by Sabatini and Ben Beaver and Austin Dillingham's triple.  All toll the Jags out hit the Eagles 12-9 but the deciding factor was stranding 17 runners on base.
 
Next game for the Jags is Tuesday, May 1st @ 1 PM Central time.  Jags must win two more games to reach the Division 1 (Top 8) Bracket.
