HWSA Day 3 Recap - May 3rd

Thursday, May 3rd
Auburndale, Florida

The Jaguars quest for Division 1 World Series Championship ends in a 4-3 loss to Woodstock, Georgia on Thursday, May 3rd.  The loss sends the Jags to the Divsion II Bracket.

Seeding Game 4 - Woodstock, GA 4 NOAH 3

Wesley Shaffer was on the mound again and it became an exciting contest. The Knights scored a run in the 1st inning when the lead off batter walked, moved to 2nd on an error then to 3rd on a balk and scored on a sac fly to left. That was all they could manage till the 5th inning as Shaffer and the team settled down and made some solid plays to quiet the Knights. The Jags struggled to get runs across the plate stranding 6 runners until the 4th inning when a walk, 3 singles by Mackenzy Shipman, Kendall Davis and Ben Beaver and a hit batter combined to put the Jags up 3-1. The Knights got a run back in the 5th and tied it in the 6th. In the top of the 7th, Shipman and Austin Stevens reached on errors and Cooper Files singled to right to put NOAH ahead 4-3. In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Knights leadoff batter singled to right, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and the 3rd hole batter walked. The Knights clean up man iced the game with a hugh double to center field to score the tying and winning runs. Moving the NOAH Jaguars into the Division II Bracket.

Division II First Round Game - NOAH 6 Temple, Tx 2

The 1st game in the Division II Brackets had NOAH playing the Temple TX Chargers with Cole Wilson on the hill.  Kendall Davis scored the Jags 1st run after reaching 2nd on a throwing error by the Chargers pitcher. He advanced to 3rd on a single by Caleb Baca and scored when MacKenzy Shipman reached on an error. In the top of the 3rd, Davis drove in Cole Wilson who reached on an error and Joe Sabatini who was hit by pitch with a booming triple to center field. The Chargers would get back their only 2 runs in the bottom of the inning on single and a 2-run homer over centerfield. In the 4th inning Cooper Files walked and was out on a fielders choice that put Austin Stevens on first and Ben Beaver singled but both runners were stranded. The 5th inning saw Kendall Davis slug a 2-run homer after Sabatini drew a lead off walk. Cooper Files moved to the mound as the heat took its toll on Wilson. Files finished the last 3 innings allowing 1 hit, 1 walk and striking out 4. The Jags scored 1 last time in the top of the 7th on Joe Sabatinis triple to right and an RBI single by Davis. Final score 6-2 NOAH. Other notes, Baca added 2 walks to his single and MacKenzy Shipman had a single and a double in the game.

The Jags will play in the Division II Semi-finals on Friday, May 4th at 1:00 p.m CST against Houston Northside Falcons.  The winner will play in the DII Championship Game on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. CST.

Tuesday, May 1, 2012
Auburndale, Florida

NOAH Jaguars beat Spring, Tx Mustangs 10-5 in the third seeding game.

Josh Ferguson started on the bump for the Jags to face the Spring Texas Mustangs.  The loser of this game drops to division III with the winner moving to the Qualifier round where a win puts your team into Division I  and a loss puts you in Division II.  Ferguson came out strong retiring six of the first seven batters in the first two innings stranding the lone baserunner on first after he had reached on an error. Jags jumped out to an early lead by scoring 4 runs in the first, 1 in the second and 2 in the third on 3 walks, triples by Joe Sabatini, Austin Dillingham and Austin Stevens. The Mustangs got on the scoreboard by plating a run on a single and double in the 4th inning. Third baseman MacKenzy Shipman had a put out and assist in the inning.  The 5th inning saw a couple of miscues and three hits and a walk to bring the Mustangs back to within 2 runs.  Wes Dominguez replaced Ferguson and got the last out to end the inning.  Dominguez pitched the 6th inning by walking two but coming back to retire the last 2 batters with K's and getting the save in the 10-5 Win.  The Jaguars now move to the Qualifier games looking for another win to move into the Platinum Division.

Jags will play Woodstock, GA on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. CST. If they win they will be in the Division 1 (Top 8) Bracket for the second year in a row.
